Devon farm lodgings ideal for exploring Dartmoor, Cornwall and Eden Project.
Beera is a large traditional Victorian farmhouse built in the 1840s set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty in Devon. The farm is part of the Hardicot Estate consisting of some 3000 acres and was once owned by the Duke of Bedford.
The farm is a 180 acre working beef and sheep farm on the banks of the river Tamar rising from 30 - 100 metres above sea level. The land is mainly in grass with some Barley, grown for livestock feed for the winter.
The farm yard and house was used in the making of the BBC TV drama The VET.
Situated on the farm is the Duke of Bedford's Drive which was the track that mostly followed the river from Morwellham Quay (the tidal limit of the river) to Endsleigh House the Dukes country retreat. On one occasion he was joined by Queen Victoria for a weekend break.
DARTMOOR
|
|
Dartmoor is a very special place! It has some of the most stunning and distinctive countryside in Britain. The Dartmoor National Park is one of only eleven national parks in England and Wales. The land rises to over 600 metres in places and is characterised by its granite tors, hidden valleys and of course, the world famous Dartmoor ponies which live wild on the moor. |
| The whole area is also a living and working landscape and has been for thousands of years. Bronze age settlements, traditional Devon long houses, medieval churches and abandoned tin mines are scattered throughout the area. But alongside these can be found thriving local communities, working farms and bustling towns with modern facilities offering you the chance to enjoy Dartmoors present, whilst exploring the past. |
